Getting to Praiano can be really unpleasant if you choose to use public transport: queues, chaos, walking and possible delays. Why not choose a private car so that you can take advantage of all the comforts and conveniences that a reserved itinerary can offer?
Relax aboard a welcoming and elegant vehicle from your accommodation, train station, port, airport or any other point in the city of Naples to Praiano.
At the center of the Amalfi Coast, between Positano and Amalfi, is the lesser-known but beautiful village of Praiano. It is a seaside resort that has maintained its atmosphere of a peaceful fishing village over the centuries. It is an ideal base for a holiday on the Amalfi Coast, as the other towns are easily accessible from here.
It has a long-standing reputation as a hospitable and fashionable resort, having been the privileged summer residence of the powerful Doges of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi. Today it attracts visitors from all over the world, attracted by its crystalline seas, awarded with the Blue Flag for cleanliness, and by enchanting views.
The main attraction, of course, is represented by the sea and the views: the main beach of Praiano is the small and charming Marina di Praia, which is located at the end of the wild Praia valley, surrounded by cliffs marked by erosion. The graceful and cylindrical Torre a Mare, with its medieval structure against pirate attacks. it stands on a promontory, still guarding the city and the coast for centuries.
The town’s cathedral is dedicated to San Luca Evangelista. Originally built in 1588, it was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1772. It is accompanied by a squat square bell tower and is decorated with hand-painted majolica, a traditional craft of the entire Amalfi Coast. The church and convent of Santa Maria a Castro are instead located on the slope outside Praiano at 365 meters above sea level: a quiet and solitary place, as the monks intended it centuries ago when they came here for contemplation and prayer.
The whole area around Praiano is a nature lover’s dream, with many paths and quiet coves.
In the village there is no shortage of restaurants and cafes, to enjoy a cappuccino or a glass of wine and to taste the local specialties.
In addition, the itinerary also includes a 2-hour stop in Pompeii or Herculaneum, to visit the famous archaeological excavations of the respective cities. Notes: a licensed archaeological guide is available for 140 Euros for 2 hours.
