Paestum was a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia.
After its foundation by Greek colonists under the name of Poseidonia (Ancient Greek: Ποσειδωνία) it was eventually conquered by the Lucanians and later the Romans.
The Lucanians renamed it to Paistos and the Romans gave the city its current name.
The ruins of Paestum are notable for their three ancient Greek temples which are in a very good state of preservation.
Today the remains of the city are found in the modern frazione of the same name, which is part of the comune of Capaccio in the Province of Salerno, Campania, Italy.
You can have lunch there or somewhere, the Buffalo Mozzarella is the best one in Italy in that area.

Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Here you’ll discover the archeological excavations of a lost city buried deep beneath the ash when Mt. Vesuvius violently erupted in 79 AD.
It was a monumental natural disaster that killed thousands and entombed the city under ash.
Explore the grounds on this 90-minute guided tour of the excavated city as your guide talks about the remarkably preserved remains that hint at daily life-their customs, buildings and cuisine; how they entertained, decorated and lived.
The eruption of Vesuvius preserved a moment in time more than 2,000 years ago, so that we may learn about the lives of the ancient Romans.
Pompeii before the eruption was known as a vacation community for high society.
It had a forum, amphitheater, gymnasium, shops and an aqueduct that delivered water for irrigation, fountains and private baths.
Some of the ruins are remarkably preserved with elaborately detailed mosaics and colorful frescoes decorating the interiors of wealthy homeowners’ villas.
